Prof. Marie Francoise Roy made his first conference for theInstitute AIMS - Senegal, Friday, April 27, 2012.
Theme: the real roots:
Since Descartes many methods have been proposed to count the number of real roots: Budan-Fourier, Sturm Habicht.
This classic theme remains updated with the theory of "fewnomials"(polynomials with monomials and a few real roots) developed after 1981 by Khovanski. Most recently, the definition of virtual roots provides a way to associate a polynomial of 'd' degree with exactly 'd' real roots, and to reinterpret the results of Budan and Fourier.
PS: To Lecturer at AIMS-Sénégal, prospective lecturers are advised to submit proposals by 30 April for courses starting the following September.
